Digital X-rays
At Somerville Comprehensive Dental Care Digital Dental X-rays are used as a tool to monitor your dental health. When compared to traditional x-rays, Digital X-rays typically reduce radiation exposure by 75% or more. A lead apron and thyroid collar are also used to further minimize exposure to the abdomen and thyroid. A small electronic sensor is placed in the mouth to capture the image, which can then immediately be viewed on a computer screen. The image itself can be enhanced in magnification, brightness and contrast to provide an optimal radiograph without having to take another x-ray. Viewing an enhanced dental x-ray on a computer screen can help a dentist better see a problem area. It can also be used as a tool for patient education allowing for a better understanding of treatment.
Intra-oral Camera
At Somerville Comprehensive Dental Care an intra-oral camera is an integral part of the treatment planning process. The camera is the size of a dental mirror and is used to capture images of various areas of the mouth. The captured images can then be viewed on a computer. allowing the patient to be able to see problem areas such as worn or broken fillings, cracked teeth, cavities, plaque deposits and excessive wear. This enables the patient to see what the dentist sees inside their mouth allowing them to make treatment decisions with confidence.
